In Hyderabad, as the Tirupati laddu faces scrutiny for alleged adulteration, artisans near Tirumala are preparing to seek a geographical indication tag for their wood carvings. Known for crafting intricate wooden statues of deities, these artisans plan to file for the Madhavamala wood carvings' GI tag with the support of the Sri Balaji Wood Carvings Mutually Aided Cooperative Society Limited. NABARD will assist in the application process, making this the 20th GI to be filed from Andhra Pradesh. Subhajit Saha, a GI practitioner, will be working alongside NABARD to help the artisans secure the tag.
